The Yorkshire Clinic provides an oncology (Chemotherapy Service), this includes diagnostic testing, consultation with oncologists who hold practice privileges at The Yorkshire Clinic and treatment consisting of oral and Intravenous chemotherapy. The consultations are supported by a specialist oncology nurse. The treatment is delivered by the nurse specialist with direction form the oncologist. Our nurse specialist has link with wider community services to ensure patients get support from other appropriate services example; Bradford and Airedale Cancer Support and The haven- breast cancer support.
The patient pathway consists of regular blood testing, consultations and cycles of chemotherapy in line with the oncologists care plan. Following chemotherapy administration which is done as a day case, patients contact the hospital should they experience any problems or complications. There is an on call rota for the oncologists who support this service and they are contactable (24/7) for advice or they will re-admit the patients for full assessment if clinically required.
We have one oncology nurse specialist, therefore to allow for annual leave or any unexpected absences we have a service level agreement with Healthcare at Home who provide nurses to administer chemotherapy for patients in the absence of our specialist nurse.
Our chemotherapy can be prepared on site as we have a full aseptic unit. The overall care for patients is delivered by the nurse specialist and consultant. We have pharmacist trained in chemotherapy preparation.
