Weight Loss Surgery

Weight loss surgery, commonly known as bariatric surgery is associated with surgical procedures on patients who suffer from obesity. Research has shown that in the long-term patients see a loss in weight, benefits from cardiovascular risks and recovery from diabetes.

Obesity can cause numerous other health complications such as certain types of cancer e.g. breast and bowel and increase your likelihood of having a stroke. Certain mental health illnesses have also been linked to obesity such as depression.

Here at the Yorkshire Clinic we offer a variety of weight loss surgeries and supply you with aftercare, nutrition guides and exercise tips. We offer full support and are here to help you regain your self-esteem and improve your overall health.

Qualifying for Weight Loss Surgery

Weight loss surgery offered at the Yorkshire Clinic consists of four procedures:

Whether you qualify for each procedure depends on the severity of your case and the methods you have attempted to try to lose weight with previously.

Your consultant will take in to consideration a range of factors when considering you for weight loss surgery – from your age and sex to your current BMI (Body Mass Index).

BMI is an important classification in weight related conditions. It is a measurement in relation to your height and weight. So in general:

  • 25< Your BMI <29.9 – Overweight
  • 30< Your BMI <39.9 – Obese
  • 40+< Your BMI  - Severely Obese

Note that in many cases someone who is muscular can have a high BMI, but as a standard classification for the general population it is a good indication of your weight category.

Weight loss surgery is a good option for a lot of people but it may not be the right option for you. There are numerous factors that have to be considered when applying for weight loss surgery, here at the Yorkshire Clinic, we are happy to talk you through these and give you appropriate advice.
