Your consultant will take in to consideration a range of factors when considering you for weight loss surgery – from your age and sex to your current BMI (Body Mass Index).
BMI is an important classification in weight related conditions. It is a measurement in relation to your height and weight. So in general:
- 25< Your BMI <29.9 – Overweight
- 30< Your BMI <39.9 – Obese
- 40+< Your BMI - Severely Obese
Note that in many cases someone who is muscular can have a high BMI, but as a standard classification for the general population it is a good indication of your weight category.
